Multi-Sensory Tuition Programme

Teaching is structured, cumulative and multisensory. Computer programmes such as Nessy, and WordShark are included in all the lessons. These have been specifically designed for dyslexic students. If Maths is the primary area of need then programmes such as Numbershark and Dynamo Maths are incorporated into the programme (which are specifically designed for dyscalculic students). All teaching is done in a positive and supportive way, encouraging metacognitive skills throughout. This way, the pupil feels in charge of his/her own learning. We can liaise with school teachers to incorporate school based targets into the individualised programme, so that we can all work together to best support the needs of the student.

Handwriting Tuition Programme

IMany dyslexic individuals can benefit from handwriting tuition. A style called continuous cursive (where each letter is formed without taking the pencil off the paper) is highly recommended.

The advantages of using this system include

  • The continuous flow of writing improves speed and spelling
  • Children’s hands develop a ‘physical memory’ of it, making it easier to produce the correct shape
  • Because letters and words flow from left to right, children are less likely to reverse letters which are typically difficult (like b/d or p/q)
  • There is a clearer distinction between capital letters and lower case.

Study Skills Programme

These study skills sessions are ideal for children and students from age 10+. They are highly individual and focus on ways to revise different subject matter, mind-mapping and study techniques, exam techniques, essay technique and much more to suit individual needs. A range of subjects can be incorporated within the sessions.

Cogmed Working Memory Programme

Cogmed Working Memory Training is a computer-based solution for improving attention by increasing working memory capacity over a five week training period.

Through combining cognitive neuroscience with innovative computer game design and close professional support, Cogmed delivers substantial and lasting benefits to its users:

  • Aims to improve attention by increasing working memory capacity
  • An online, coach-supported training program
  • Can be completed in around five weeks in school, home or work environments
  • For children and adults alike
  • Based on solid research.

SAT’s Booster programme

Here at the Centre, we provide 1:1 specialist SAT’s preparation in the areas of reading, writing and maths. Recently, we successfully tutored 14 pupils, who all had low levels of Literacy and Numeracy. All 14 of these pupils went on to achieve Level 4 in Mathematics and Literacy, with some even achieving Level 5! Sessions can take place at the Centre, or at the school upon request.
